For individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness, accessing disability benefits can be an overwhelming process.

SHC's trained SOAR Specialists help eligible individuals with serious mental illness, medical impairments, and/or substance use disorders navigate applications for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

In North Carolina, applications prepared with the assistance of a SOAR Specialist have an approval rate more than four times higher than applications submitted without one.
